Waterproofing

• Internal wall or floor damp problems caused by external factors (water leaks, lack of a damp proof membrane, condensation caused by a lack of insulation etc.) will not be cured by waterproofing the internal wall or floor. Waterproofing the internal surfaces in these cases will only move the problem elsewhere.
• Damp problems caused by hydrostatic pressure in cellars or similar rooms located below the water table will require alternative solutions.
• Tile adhesives described as 'waterproof' cannot be used to waterproof walls or floors. While they may be unaffected by water, most will allow water to pass through!

BAL WP1

BAL WP1 is a light grey grey, flexible seamless tanking system. Surfaces will need to be primed using the acrylic primer before applying the acrylic waterproof coating. Internal and external angles, junctions between wall and floor and surfaces subject to limited movement will need to be reinforced using BAL WP1 polyester tape and matting. Available sold separately or as a BAL WP1 Showerkit.

Schlüter DITRA & KERDI Matting

Schlüter DITRA and KERDI matting and tape is a system of waterproof plastic sheeting and tapes that can be applied to both walls and floors to waterproof the surfaces.

Marmox Tile Backer Board

Marmox tile backer boards when fixed to either wall or floor provide an excellent waterproof surface to tile too. Edges need to be butt jointed with DOW Corning 785 silicone sealant and all joints taped with Marmox scrim tape.
