Tile Edging Trims, Transition and Sealer Strips and Tile Expansion Joints
Tile edging trims are used to protect tile edges from damage, while providing an aesthetically pleasing continuous and smooth finish. Tile transition strips are used to smoothly join floor coverings of different heights, such as vinyl to ceramic floor tiles, while sealer strips are used to provide a functionally pleasing watertight joint between a bath or shower and it's wall tiling. Tile Expansion Joints (also called Tile Movement Joints) are required on larger floors or over floors that are subject to movement.
Tile Expansion Joints (also known as Movement Joints) are required to prevent stresses building in the tile bed due to contraction/expansion or lateral movement in the underlying wall or floor. Failure to fix appropriate Tile Expansion (movement) joints can lead to tiles cracking or complete floor failure. British Standard B.S. 5385 Part 3:1989 provides details of when Tile Expansion (movement) joints need to be installed in wall or floors. Our trim suppliers are Schlüter or Genesis APS.
Tile Edging Trims are available from THE TILE SOURCE
to suit multiple tile depths, in a variety finishes: PVC, Aluminium, Stainless Steel, brass, chrome and titanium effect. In addition a wide choice of colours are available to provide a co-ordinating or contrasting finish. Trims are usually finished with a rounded edge or square edge. Transition strips are also available to suit a variety of different tile heights in brass, aluminium and powder coated aluminium. Many people forget to use transition strips in their tile flooring and end up with exposed tile edges that are both unattractive and prone to damage. Our trim suppliers are Schlüter® or Genesis APS.
Sealer strips provide a neat watertight joint that can be used as part of a system to prevent water leaks from the shower or bath joint with the tiling. Inexpensive and easy to install. Available only in white, Genesis APS PVC seal plus self adhesive.
Step Nosing Profiles are used where tiles finish at a step. An easy to fix solution is the Schlüter® - TREP series of stair nosings available in black or stainless steel.
