- Schlüter-DITRA matting is Schlüter's top seller. A very versatile product as it can be used to waterproof a floor, as an uncoupling layer (to prevent movement in the floor under the tiles from causing cracking or general tile failure) and to equalise vapour pressure.
a) Uncoupling
Schlüter-DITRA uncouples the floor covering from the substrate and neutralises the tensions between the substrate and the tile covering that result from the varying deformations of the materials. Likewise, stress cracks in the substrate are bridged and are, therefore, not transferred to the surface covering. Particularly suited to tiling on timber floors, over screeded underfloor heating systems, under larger format natural stone, 'green' screeds and balcony systems.
b) Waterproofing
Schlüter-DITRA is a waterproof polyethylene membrane and when the joints, perimeters and any pipework is weathered using KERDI tape then the floor will be fully waterprrof and can be used as part of a wet room system. (wet room solution page)
c) Equalisation of vapour pressure
The interconnected air channels between the cavities on the underside of the Schlüter-DITRA matting remain open. This allows moisture in the substrate to evaporate, thus neutralising vapour pressure.
